By Dr. Roger Clark
A golden opportunity. A cosmic secret. A summer job that’s truly out of this world.
Berenice is a college junior with a very grounded problem: she’s broke. With the fall semester looming, she heads to the campus placement office hoping for a standard summer gig. Instead, she meets Dr. Eigen—the eccentric CEO of a "foreign mining company" looking for a local surrogate to handle his affairs.

On paper, Berenice is a total mismatch for a desk job, but her "wild card" skills make her Dr. Eigen’s perfect candidate. A licensed pilot with a background in metal sculpture, she has the technical grit he needs. Though his reclusive nature is strange, her doubts vanish the moment he reveals his "samples"—exotic diamonds and raw gold nuggets that promise a commission of a lifetime.

But as the business venture takes a bizarre turn, Berenice realizes the stakes are higher than a paycheck. Forced to come clean, her employer reveals the truth: Dr. Eigen isn't from a foreign country—he’s from a foreign galaxy. Stranded and desperate, he is a human-appearing extraterrestrial with a critically damaged ship, and Berenice is his last hope for a way home.

Blending vivid adventure with sharp humor, Sounds of Distant Earth is a captivating sci-fi journey for readers of all ages.
