Description
Published in September 2023 by BookBaby, Snake and Other Short Stories is a diverse anthology of ten standalone works of short fiction.
Unlike collections bound by a single genre or strict central premise, Bennett's book is purposefully eclectic, offering a little bit of everything. The stories jump across different genres, tones, and subject matters, keeping the reader guessing as they turn from one tale to the next.
What to Expect Inside
According to the book's official synopsis, there is no single common theme or plot tying the stories together. Instead, the collection features:
Crime & Suspense: Gritty, grounded narratives centered around criminal elements.
Time-Bending Fantasy: A story that bridges the gap between the 16th and 21st centuries.
The Paranormal vs. Science: A couple of the stories focus heavily on the clash between mainstream scientific understanding and unexplainable supernatural events.
Mature Themes: Several of the stories deal with provocative themes, making this a collection geared toward adult readers.
About the Author
Richard Bennett is an author based in the Pacific Northwest, living on five acres of woodland on Whidbey Island alongside his cat, Hooli. Before writing fiction, Bennett was known for publishing nonfiction articles about outdoor recreation, including backpacking and mountain climbing, in various magazines and journals. He credits the isolation during the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic for giving him the time and motivation to pivot into writing this, his debut collection of short fiction.
